Last July, I was blessed to spend 3 weeks in Seattle with Jonathan Canlas. I shot Super 8mm video for his two Film Is Not Dead workshops. Easily the best time of 2011 without question.
Patrick has been my best friend since we were born. Literally. We were born in the same hospital, 8 days apart. Words will never do justice to what he means to me. He is more like a brother to me since i spent every day with him growing up. I don’t have a childhood memory where Ping is not involved. When he passed away at Christmas this year, i knew i was going to get a tattoo for him. CS Lewis and Aslan especially has always been something that reminds me of Patrick and his family. Growing up with Patrick, i always remember this awesome painted mural of Narnia in his room. Â The mural is from the original artwork of the the book The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The Aslan on my arm is from that artwork.
Ian White of Ian White Tattoos did the tattoo.  Ian is an unbelievable tattoo artist.  Truly thankful for how amazing of a job he did for me.
My dear sweet friend Ariel Renae photographed the process. Ariel shoots some amazing digital photos but  never film.  She was a little hesitant but i metered for her, gave her my camera and just told her to focus and shoot. She nailed it! She did an absolutely amazing job. This was my first time shooting TMAX 400 and i officially love it. The color film is Portra 800.
I love this shot i got in Philadelphia second shooting for the most elegant Kate Murphy. Its obviously black & white film but i’m not sure which one since we were playing around with a few different films that day. Â This was shot with the Canon 1V.
My good friends Joel + Linsey have been teaching me a lot about giving. Their hearts are incredible and their love for each other is truly magnetic. Â I decided to give Joel a free couple’s session to surprise Linsey on Valentine’s Day. Â Linsey (as you can tell) laughed so hard when she found out what we were doing. I don’t think i’ve laughed so much during a session with a couple. Enjoy.
I can’t express to you enough how rare it is to see both my dad and my mom’s side of the family in the same weekend. I was blessed to have that happen a few weeks ago when i went home to South Carolina for an oyster roast.
Emily is easily one of the most naturally gorgeous girls i know. I knew i had to photograph her one day from the moment i saw her. Whats even more amazing is how funny she is. It totally caught me off guard. Â Being around her was a true joy even if it did snow while we were taking photos. Â I must thank her for trusting me and braving the cold weather. I can’t wait to photograph her again.
Once again i made a movie of my Christmas experience using the canon s95 tilt shift function. I flew into Charleston for a quick get away from Nashville. It was so good to see my family. This was a very different and unique Christmas compared to most but God was present nonetheless. Oh and my parents got a new puppy. Her name is Stella. Enjoy.
